I. “Their name” – Genesis 5:1-2
“…And called their name Adam!”
II. To Value His name in a Day of Indifference – Malachi 1:1 and Malachi 3:16
“Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.”
Two worthy characteristics for a day of such indifference as found in Malachi:
- They feared the Lord
- They valued His name
III. The Preciousness of His name – Matthew 1:21
“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.”
IV. “This is Jesus” – Matthew 27:35-37 and Acts 4:10-12
“And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
“By the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead…Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved”
V. “And hast NOT denied my name” – Revelation 3:7-8
“…For thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.”
- There was the acknowledgment of “little strength” requiring humility and need for ongoing dependence on the Lord
- They kept His word
- The did not deny His name
Are we busy doing those things that are according to the wisdom and instruction of the word of God?
VI. “His name shall be in their foreheads!” – Revelation 22:3-4
“And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.”
Does our testimony reflect that name that will be on our foreheads even while we are here on earth?
VII. Gathered unto His name – Matthew 18:20
Have we placed ourselves in a position that sets aside the precious name of the Lord Jesus Christ?
How do we honor the Lord’s name together?
Philippians 2:9-11: “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
